Renewable energy: Beyond the ‘Merton Rule’
Venue: Roots and Shoots, Lambeth

National guidelines now mean that all planning authorities must have renewable energy targets for new developments. Over 80 councils have already led the way, and targets are rapidly going beyond the original 10% of the ‘Merton Rule’, with the ‘London Plan’ soon to require 20% on all new developments. Utilising community heating and CHP
Seminar and site visit

11th October 2006
Delegates heard a range of presentations on community heating and its benefits.  Followed by a site visit to the Barkantine Heat and Power community heating scheme.

 

Where the wind blows: Benefiting from wind turbines
Practical seminar and site visits

15th September 2006
The half day overviewed the current status of small scale with within the UK, looked at the different wind turbines available and visited four different installations.

Planning policy for sustainable energy is becoming increasingly challenging. The half day seminar provided delegates with practical understanding of integration of renewable energy into building design.

Benefiting from Biomass: Biomass for Housing Projects.
Thursday 2nd March 2006.
This one-day event highlighted the potential of biomass to cost-effectively meet 10% renewable energy planning policies, and provided a practical overview of the technology, fuel supply, and integration into developments.
