Affordable Warmth

Working to remove Fuel Poverty

It is thought that there are as many as 7.5 million households in England alone whose fuel spending is not adequate to heat their homes properly: the vast majority of these are vulnerable people

Every UK household deserves satisfactory heating in their home & CEN provides a range of services to ensure that vulnerable householders get the assistance they need.

The provision of Affordable Warmth is a complex issue which requires an integrated approach, from gaining strategic support and developing holistic strategies, to identifying fuel poor households and providing them with the assistance they need to achieve affordable warmth.

  • Strategic Support and Strategy Development – gaining the support of local authorities, the health sector and other agencies is vital to ensure that fuel poverty eradication can be approached in a structured and coordinated way. Central to this is the need for effective strategy, whether it be a dedicated affordable warmth strategy or the inclusion of specific aims within existing strategy documentation.
  • Targeted Marketing and Community Outreach – identifying areas with a potentially high incidence of fuel poverty and targeting these areas with the right mix of marketing and outreach is an important step in efficiently reaching those in need of assistance.
  • Coldbusters Grant Schemes – installing effective insulation and heating measures into the properties of vulnerable members of the community is the only sustainable way of eliminating fuel poverty. Through ‘Coldbusters’, CEN manages local authority and regional grant budgets to provide measures through the tendered CEN Installer Network.
