Data and Research Services

CEN can offer a range of bespoke data and research services which are designed to improve customer insight and enhance decision-making and project development.

Our services can be applied at varying scales, from relatively small, static and single-issue projects, to multi-annual work programmes delivering dynamic outputs for statutory obligations (e.g. decent homes, stock condition, housing strategy).

We employ data integration and modeling methodologies to gather, manipulate and analyse demographic, socioeconomic and building-related data. We then apply outputs (e.g. reports, databases, GIS maps, statistics, models) from these processes to improve the targeting, uptake and cost effectiveness of domestic and community projects.

Additionally we use data to facilitate effective engagement of strategic partners by illustrating local problems and solutions for energy efficiency and renewable technology, thus informing project and strategy development, data gathering, marketing and funding acquisition.

CEN also undertakes regular data collection and analysis for local authorities and housing associations. We also manage research projects, using both quantitative and qualitative techniques, to assist organisations understand more about subjects such as energy-use, consumer behaviour and fuel poverty.

Project examples include:
  • HotSpots: Hotspots uses GIS techniques to integrate data from a variety of sources, including Home Energy Checks, local authority databases and Census data, in order to assist the targeting of activities.
  • In Focus: This approach delivers property specific outputs which helps increase accuracy and takes into account variability at the sub-ward and Census Output Area levels.
  • Stock Wide Assessment Procedure: This is a largely desk-based study, with an associated database, that can be used as a decision-making guide for energy efficiency and renewable energy. This methodology is mainly aimed at housing associations where stock information tends to be more widely available.
