If your organisation spends more than £500,000 on electricity you will need to register by 30 September 2010 to avoid a £5000 fine, and a subsequent £500 a day fine thereafter.
To ensure you avoid a fine, the scheme's administrators have indicated that they will be checking the identities of all applicants registering under the scheme and this will add an additional two weeks to the application procedure.
The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme applies in full to organisations that had at least one Half Hourly Meter settled on the half hourly market in 2008 and whose electricity consumption in 2008 was at least 6,000 MWh.
With less than a month to register, are you ready?
You will need to provide information about your organisation’s group structure and have this verified by Companies Act tests.
Information on all mandatory and voluntary half hour meters during 2008 will also need to be submitted, together with information about your total electricity supply.
Organisations will need to monitor their emissions and purchase allowances to emit carbon dioxide (CO2). The more CO2 an organisation emits, the more allowances it will need to purchase, so there is a direct incentive to reduce emissions.
Poor performance in the Government's league table will tag organisations as non-reporters and energy wasters, damage their reputation and potentially have major financial repurcussions.
